Strengthening positive changes with EFT/Tapping

Tapping is an incredible tool — not just for releasing what’s weighing you down but also for reinforcing the positivity that takes its place.

Tap on the positive to let it settle deeper

The most common use of tapping is for clearing and releasing old patterns that no longer serve us. Some may say we tap on the ‘negative,’ but I prefer to say that we tap on ‘what is.’ If you're curious about this perspective, I explain it further in my blog, “We tap on the negative ‘what is’.”

We typically seek out therapeutic and self-help tools when we’re struggling, not when things are going well. However, EFT/tapping can also be used to deepen positive emotions and beliefs, helping them settle more firmly into our minds and bodies.

You can - but when should you?

Yes! I’ve personally used positive tapping in my healing journey. However, I only recommend it if the positive statements genuinely resonate with you. Simply repeating affirmations without believing them won’t be as effective.

Think of it like painting a wall: if you don’t clean the surface first, the new paint won’t cover the dirt properly. Likewise, clearing emotional blocks makes space for positivity to truly take root.

Use positive tapping to identify resistance

Tapping on positive statements can actually help uncover any inner resistance. As you affirm something uplifting, notice what thoughts or sensations arise in your mind and body.

Do you feel doubt? Discomfort? That’s valuable insight—it shows you what still needs clearing.

Start slow: “I am open to the possibility”

If fully embracing a positive statement feels difficult, ease into it.

Try using phrases that include “I am open to the possibility”, for example:

  • “I feel anxious, but I am open to the possibility that this can pass and I can feel calm.”
  • “I still feel anxious, but I am open to the possibility that I can let this go.”
  • “This anxiety I feel—I am open to the possibility of releasing it.”

This approach lowers the resistance because you’re not forcing yourself to believe something outright—you’re just allowing your mind to consider the possibility.

Transition into stronger statements

As you clear resistance and grow more comfortable with positive change, you can shift to stronger statements using “I am” or “I want.”

For example:

  • “I am calm and grounded.”

  • “I want to embrace confidence in my daily life.”

You can also add some positive encouragement:

  • “I am capable”

  • “I am strong”

  • “I can do this.”

Combining tapping with positive affirmations

Words have power. Pairing tapping with positive affirmations can amplify their effect, helping you embody the beliefs you want to cultivate.
