With so much social media and external stimulations influencing our state of mind - and consequently our lives - it’s more important than ever to reconnect with the power we hold within.
Here’s a curated list of ten of my favourite empowering quotes to help us we can shift your mindset and therefore reclaim our inner strength.
10 inspiring quotes to help you reclaim your power and transform your mindset
In a world dominated by constant external stimulation, it’s very easy to feel overwhelmed. Mainstream media, social media, and technology of all types are continuously bombarding us with news, statements and options - we barely have time to make sense of one thing before the next one is thrown at us.
When you combine this fast pace with busy agendas and long to-do lists, it’s easy to forget the power we actually have over our thoughts, emotions and ultimately, our lives.
The idea that life is a mirror isn’t new - that is, our inner world shapes our outer reality. It reminds us that we are empowered and powerful - it means we can transform what’s around us, by transforming what’s within us.
I personally love quotes. No matter how short or simple they are, their meaning can be incredibly impactful. So I've chosen some of my favourites on this subject, as a reminder - to myself too - that we can shift our mindset, reconnect with our inner power, and change the way we experience life.
When it comes to quotes, some we just read. Some, we understand. Some, we truly get. The difference lies in our state of mind. It’s similar to reading a book more than once - the book remains the same, but the reader evolves. Come back to these whenever you feel called - they may be the same, but you won’t be ;)
"Yesterday I was clever, so I wanted to change the world. Today I am wise, so I am changing myself" Rumi
In the 13th century, Sufi mystic and poet Rumi already described the essence of ‘life is a mirror’ in such a beautiful and poetic way. This is the very first concept of self-power - we don’t need to change the world if we understand and believe that by changing ourselves, we do change our world.
“Do not try to change people; they are only messengers telling you who you are. Revalue yourself and they will confirm the change.” Neville Goddard
As part of the ‘world’, Goddard suggests that it’s pointless to try to change people. Most of us spend a lot of time and energy trying to get the behaviours we expect from others, when, in truth, we could be making much better use of these situations by seeing them as indicators of the unresolved parts we still have to work on.
In the same line of thought as Rumi, Goddard says that if we revalue ourselves, then the people around us will naturally change as a result.
A caveat here is that even though the advice is to focus on ourselves rather than on changing others, it doesn’t mean we have to keep everyone in our lives. Some people can be toxic, abusive or unhelpful - and it’s completely okay to walk away. As Joshua Fields Millburn puts it “You can't change the people around you, but you can change the people around you.” Remember, this is also part of your inner power.
"A man is but the product of his thoughts, what he thinks he becomes." Mahatma Gandhi
So when we say ‘we must change yourselves’, what do we actually mean? According to Gandhi - and many other authors, speakers and researchers - the first aspect we are invited to be mindful of is our thoughts.
It’s widely accepted that our thoughts act as blueprints for our lives. But here are some crucial questions: do you know what your thoughts actually are? Are you aware of what’s in your mind? Do you stop to observe the thoughts that emerge throughout the day? Do you notice what you are thinking of when emotions rise?
In The Strangest Secret, author Earl Nightingale tells that, in the 50s, a reporter asked the Nobel Peace Prize-winning Dr. Albert Schweitzer, “Doctor, what’s wrong with men today?” After a pause, he replied, “Men simply don’t think!”
What he meant was that many of us don’t take the time or make the effort to think consciously - we spend most of our time on auto-pilot, repeating patterns, and absorbing what’s being presented to us without discernment, instead of choosing what we allow and keep into our mindset. Which leads us to the next quote…
“If you do not run your subconscious mind yourself, someone else will run it for you.” Florence Scovel Shinn
Our subconscious is absolutely incredible. Even with all our research and technology, I don’t believe we fully understand its capabilities. That said, we do know quite a lot.
Our subconscious is a repository of mental processes, memories, values, beliefs and emotions. It is said that 90% of our thoughts and behaviours come from our subconscious mind, and only 10% from our conscious mind. That means that whatever is stored in our subconscious mind is essentially running the show.
It’s also known that from birth to around age 7, our mind is a sponge - absorbing everything around us and shaping who we are, as well as how we see others and the world.
If we are not mindful, this state of absorption can continue infinitely. That’s what Shinn means in her quote: if we are not intentional about what we accept and keep in our minds, we end up living according to the ideas and beliefs we’ve absorbed from others.
“Your living is determined not so much by what life brings to you as by the attitude you bring to life; not so much by what happens to you as by the way your mind looks at what happens.” Kahlil Gibran
Another important factor in recognising your inner power is understanding that we don't see things as they are, we see them as we are.
It is as if we were all wearing glasses. The lenses are our beliefs, values, programs, memories, decisions, and rules. Each pair of glasses is unique and can only be worn by that one person.
When two people are looking at the same situation, neither sees the thing itself. Both see a version of it - filtered and slightly distorted through their lenses. That’s perception, and it’s deeply personal.
If we want our experience of life to change, we have the power to do so by changing how we see it. For that, we need to change the lenses. As Wayne Dyer put it: “Change the way you look at things and the things you look at change.”
“Men do not attract that which they want, but that which they are.” James Allen
If you, like me, resonate with Nikola Tesla, who believed that “to understand the universe, you must think in terms of energy, frequency, and vibration”, then Allen’s statement becomes easier to grasp.
We are, at our core, energetic beings, and are constantly sending and receiving vibrational signals through our thoughts, emotions and overall inner state. These signals are naturally aligned with what is often referred to as Law of Attraction - the idea that like attracts like.
This means that we are always in communication with life - we may call it the universe, nature or something else - whether we are consciously aware of the content of our message or not.
What this quote reminds us is that it’s not just about what we want, but about what we are. Even if we feel like we are asking for something specific, what we receive tends to match our internal state - our beliefs, emotions, and self-perception.
So, if you ask for love but feel or believe you are unlovable, you may unknowingly be broadcasting that frequency - and receiving more experiences that reflect it. The same applies to money, success, relationships, or any other area of life.
The key point Allen is making is that, in order to change what we experience externally, we need to shift who we are internally: To feel loved before love appears. To feel abundant before money arrives. To embody the version of ourselves that already has what we desire - and allow life to respond to that shift.
“Man can only receive what he sees himself receiving.” Florence Scovel Shinn
This quote beautifully aligns with the idea above: we can only receive what we believe is possible for us - and what we feel we truly deserve.
We may wish for many things, but if we hold underlying beliefs that they are out of reach, or not meant for us, we unintentionally block ourselves from experiencing them. This is where self-image becomes so important.
It’s also worth noting that many of these beliefs operate at a subconscious level. They may sit in blind spots we’re not immediately aware of. Practices like meditation, journaling, self-reflection, and therapy can help bring these patterns to the surface - so we can gently shift them and create space for new experiences to enter our lives.
“Imagination is everything. It is the preview of life's coming attractions.” Albert Einstein
We all heard the paradigms ‘seeing is believing’ versus ‘believing is seeing’. And yet, it’s easy to doubt our dreams when our current reality doesn’t match them. We may wait for money to feel abundant, or for a promotion to feel successful.
However, thinkers like Einstein and Napoleon Hill suggest the opposite: everything begins in the mind. As Hill famously said, “Whatever the mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve.”
Similarly, Dr. Joe Dispenza speaks about how shifting our internal state - through imagination, meditation, and intentional awareness - can influence our external reality.
Imagination, in this sense, is not just daydreaming. It’s a powerful tool for shaping our mindset, aligning our emotions, and beginning to embody the life we want to create.
“Feeling a state produces that state.” Neville Goddard
We’ve spoken about thoughts, perception, self-image, imagination - the next essential piece is emotion.
Emotions are a key part of how we experience and express our inner state. They bring ideas to life. They allow us to feel something in the present moment, not just think about it. In that sense, emotions act as a bridge between the mind and the body. They help anchor our inner world into a lived experience.
When we combine thoughts, imagination, and emotion, we create a powerful internal alignment. One that strengthens the signal we are sending out - and shapes the reality we begin to experience.
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure...
... It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, 'Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?' Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
Marianne Williamson
Applied action: where the real change begins
All of the above is inspiring, empowering, and motivating - but the real shift happens when we begin to apply it. Thoughts, beliefs, self-image, emotions… These are not just ideas, they are patterns that live within us. And transforming them requires awareness, intention, and sometimes support.
There are many ways to start this journey on your own - I have for many years and still do. Practices like meditation, journaling, self-reflection, tapping videos, breathing techniques and many others can help you gently shift your inner state.
Over time, these small shifts begin to create a new version of you - one that feels more aligned, more grounded and more in charge of their reality.
At the same time, it’s completely natural for this process to feel overwhelming at times. When deeper patterns surface, having guidance and support can make all the difference.
Therapy offers a safe space to explore what’s coming up for you - to share, understand, process, align and integrate. As you shift internally, your external world begins to reflect those changes.
EFT tapping: a gentle way to start shifting your inner state
If you feel called to go a little deeper into this work, Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), also known as tapping, is a powerful yet gentle way to reconnect with yourself.
It works directly with your thoughts, emotions, and subconscious patterns - helping you release what feels stuck and create space for new beliefs and experiences. This is exactly why I love it so much, and why I integrate it into the work I offer.
Let's tap, reclaim your inner power and create a new reality
If you’re curious to experience it for yourself, you’re very welcome to explore it with me.
